Dan Perry named to new position of AP's Europe editor
NEW YORK -- Dan Perry, chief of bureau in Jerusalem,
has been named to the new position of Europe editor for The
Associated Press.
The appointment was announced Monday by International Editor
Deborah Seward.
Perry will lead a new London-based regional desk, supervising
and coordinating AP's editorial operations in Europe and Africa
as part of a further strengthening of international coverage
and a new emphasis on global markets by the AP.
"Dan is a very fine journalist with a focused, determined
leadership style," Seward said. "In his new role,
he'll head a team dedicated to producing fast-paced, in-depth
coverage in a multimedia news environment."
Perry joined the AP in 1990 as correspondent in Bucharest,
where he strengthened AP's operations in Romania. He transferred
to Israel in 1993 as correspondent in Tel Aviv.
Four years later, he was named chief of Caribbean services
based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, AP's hub for dozens of nations
and territories in the region.
Named to head the Jerusalem bureau in 2000, Perry has led
an integrated print, photo, TV and radio operation in Israel,
the West Bank and Gaza.
Perry, who grew up in Philadelphia, is a graduate of the University
of Pennsylvania and holds a master's degree in computer science
