Hefling named Washington regional reporter for Pennsylvania

PHILADELPHIA -- Kimberly Hefling, correspondent for The Associated Press in Evansville, Ind., has been named the Washington regional reporter for Pennsylvania.

The appointment was announced Feb. 23 by Sally Carpenter Hale, chief of bureau for Pennsylvania.

Hefling joined the AP in Louisville in 1997 and became the Pikeville, Ky., correspondent the following year. She moved to Evansville in 2000.

Last year, Hefling won the AP's Charles Rowe Award for Distinguished State Bureau Reporting for her coverage of the military. She was embedded with a division from Fort Campbell, Ky., during the U.S. push across Iraq and, a year earlier, in Afghanistan during the attacks on the Taliban.

Hefling is a native of Wichita, Kan., and a graduate of Kansas State University.

She succeeds Lara Jakes Jordan, who has been promoted to the national staff in Washington.
