AP redesigns corporate Web site

The Associated Press has redesigned its corporate Web site to better reflect its goal toward becoming the essential global news network. The redesign provides a new look for www.ap.org which serves as the news cooperative's front door to other Internet sites from the AP. The updated visual presentation includes navigation options, direct access to breaking news, more contact information and an expanded "About AP" section for the world's oldest and largest news organization.

The home page is more dynamic. It showcases AP's worldwide photo report with a moving, horizontal slideshow of recent news images. The AP has won more Pulitzer Prizes for pictures than any other news organization.

The redesigned site also makes it easier to find precise language about requesting permission to use AP's intellectual property. It spells out that "no political candidate, political party, political action committee, polemical organization, or any group formed for partisan purpose may use AP copy in any publication," in line with AP's continuing mission to strive for impartiality and integrity in its news report.

Here are some other highlights of the redesign:

Navigation Options
There are three navigation tools on every page: the navigation bar on the left, the drop down box on the top right, and a link to the site map. The footer provides easy access to purchase news, photos or books from The AP as well as access to information about AP careers.

Direct Access to Breaking News
The home page features text headlines of AP's top stories -- as displayed on newspaper and broadcast Web sites -- as well as a link to the day’s featured photos, audio and video clips. The home page also offers the option to search AP’s news archive for stories of the past week. There is a nominal fee for accessing older AP stories.

More Contact Information
The new “Contact Us” section includes frequently requested phone and fax numbers for select AP bureaus and departments. Also an e-mail address for general questions, comments, press releases and information requests: info@ap.org. Contact information for AP Careers is located in the footer of each page.

Frequently Requested Information about The AP
An improved “About AP” section includes press releases, facts and figures and comprehensive historical information including a list of AP Pulitzer Prize winners.
Visitors to the Web site are invited to comment on the redesign, which was coordinated by AP's Corporate Communications department. Send feedback to info@ap.org and include the word "AP.org" in the subject line
