Michael
Salk joins the AP as director of financial and business products
NEW YORK -- Former Reuters executive Michael Salk has joined
The Associated Press as director of financial and business
products in the New Media Markets division. Salk's responsibility
is to oversee management of all of AP's financial products,
said AP Vice President of New Media Markets Jane Seagrave,
who announced the appointment.
"Mike comes to us with nearly two decades of experience
developing and marketing new financial products for emerging
technologies," said Seagrave. "The AP will use his
valuable expertise to set the course for expansion in our
highly promising financial products area."
Salk reports to Seagrave in his newly created position, based
at New York headquarters.
Salk has worked for Reuters, most recently as global head
of text and online products, where he was closely involved
in the evolution of its online licensing business. AP created
AP Financial News last year as a first step in a broader plan
to increase coverage of business and financial issues.
At Reuters, Salk refocused the North America newspaper sales
strategy, led a team in simplifying news packages and introduced
new, lower cost content delivery solutions for Reuters customers.
Earlier in his career, Salk was vice president-strategy for
BridgeNews, where he provided strategic, product and financial
oversight for a 700-person business news division. He also
held marketing positions with Knight-Ridder Financial, Telescan,
Inc., and IDD Information Services. He holds a bachelor of
science degree in management from Worcester Polytechnic Institute
and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University.
In his new role at the AP, the Markets Data Group will report
to Salk. Internally, he will work closely with news, strategic
planning, sales and marketing groups to determine how the
AP can improve its financial product portfolio. Externally,
Salk will take the lead on developing relationships with existing
and potential partners in the delivery of financial news,
tools and data, said Seagrave.
