Frank Fisher appointed AP chief of bureau
in Iowa
NEW YORK – Frank Fisher, Associated Press chief of bureau
in Jackson, Miss., has been appointed AP's bureau chief for
Iowa, based in Des Moines. The announcement was made Aug.
18 by Tom Brettingen, senior vice president of Newspaper &
New Media Markets.
Fisher replaces Kristi Chew, who resigned from the AP after
11 years as Des Moines chief of bureau to become assistant
managing editor of Better Homes and Gardens magazine in Des
Moines.
Fisher has directed AP's Mississippi operations since January
1999. Previously, he was correspondent in Augusta, Maine,
and Carbondale, Ill., and a newsman in Jackson and Albany,
N.Y.
A native of San Francisco, Fisher joined the AP in Albany
in 1989 after internships at the Seal Beach (Calif.) Journal
and Los Angeles Times. He is a graduate of California State
University, Long Beach, and served with the Marine Corps and
the Army before entering journalism.
