Jim Baltzelle appointed AP assistant chief of bureau in Texas

DALLAS -- Jim Baltzelle, editor of The St. Augustine (Fla.) Record since 2000, has been named assistant chief of bureau in Texas for The Associated Press.

Baltzelle replaces Rod Richardson, who was named managing editor of The Times of Shreveport, La. The appointment was announced Aug. 9 by Dale Leach, the AP's Texas bureau chief.

Before joining the St. Augustine newspaper, Baltzelle served in various newsroom management positions at The Florida Times-Union of Jacksonville. He previously was a news manager at publications in Palatka and Ocala, Fla.

Baltzelle has been an adjunct professor at Flagler College in St. Augustine, where he taught advanced reporting and editing, and at the University of North Florida, where he taught investigative reporting techniques.
