'The AP Top 100 Recruits' lists the best football recruits from high schools

Sports Editors:

The Associated Press will debut a new feature on Aug. 30: The AP Top 100 Recruits, listing the best football recruits from America's high schools.

The Top 100 will be broken down by region, with a list of the top 25 prospects from the East, South, Central and West. The lists are in alphabetical order.

The AP lists were compiled from reporting done by its writers around the country over the past several weeks. AP writers identified the top prospects in their respective states through research that included, but was not limited to, talking with contacts and various AP members. Those lists were submitted to a committee of AP writers in each region who cross-referenced them and came up with the final list of 25 recruits per region.

In addition to the lists, AP will move stories and short bio boxes on each prospect by region beginning Aug. 30. The material can be used across formats for customers receiving AP's sports wire services. The content serves as a strong complement to the AP's new college football website, APTop25.com, which launched this month.

The AP's West Region 25 will move on Aug. 30. AP's Central Region 25 will move on Aug. 31, AP's East Region 25 will move on Sept. 1 and AP's South Region 25 will move on Sept. 2 — along with the complete list of the Top 100 prospects.

"The AP Top 100 Recruits provides members and customers with national content that has distinct local and regional ties, content that can be used with high school, recruiting and other college football coverage," Sports Editor Terry Taylor said.

The AP hopes to publish the recruiting list annually.
