AP Press Release
AP launches AP Mobile América Latina with regional news providers
NEW YORK – The Associated Press is launching AP Mobile América Latina, a multimedia wireless news portal that expands the popular AP Mobile news network to consumers throughout the Americas.
AP Mobile offers Latin American news sources the opportunity to reach consumers through AP Mobile en Español and AP Mobile América Latina. AP Mobile en Español is available to consumers in the United States who want their international, national and high-level local news in Spanish. AP Mobile América Latina caters to Latin American consumers, offering regional, national and world news from AP and more local Latin American and Caribbean news from participating news providers.
The launch was announced Thursday in connection with the general assembly of the Inter-American Press Association (IAPA) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
"AP Mobile en Español and AP Mobile América Latina will be regional options in all current AP Mobile outlets – including the WAP site as well as the iPhone, Palm Pre, Android and Nokia client applications – with more handsets and carriers to come," said Jane Seagrave, AP senior vice president for global product development.
Latin American and Caribbean media partners can make their news available to both local audiences and those in other countries via AP Mobile. Likewise, Spanish news from the United States will reach both U.S. and Latin American audiences.
"We are excited to be joined in this effort by regional news providers. Together, we can empower Latin American news consumers to choose mobile news with robust location-based content in their native language, whether from Latin America, the Caribbean or U.S. locations," said Sue Cross, AP senior vice president for Media Markets, Americas.
The RBS Group of Brazil is among the regional news providers providing news on AP Mobile America Latina.
"AP Mobile opens an important source of distribution to deliver to an international audience the content of the RBS group's eight newspapers, which provide quality and reliable news coverage of southern Brazil," said Marcelo Rech, product director for RBS Group. "It is a great pleasure that, besides being longtime AP subscribers, we now become content providers for The Associated Press."
Earlier this year, AP entered the international market with the development of French and English language versions of The Canadian Press Mobile. Following that, the AP Mobile team launched AP Mobile en Español featuring U.S. Spanish language news in two versions – as a dedicated news category channel for the AP Mobile iPhone application and as a standalone application available for download on BlackBerry App World.
