Gamel appointed to new AP position of news editor in Baghdad
NEW YORK -- Kim Gamel, a veteran correspondent
and editor for The Associated Press, has been appointed to
the new position of news editor in Baghdad.
The appointment was announced Dec. 7 by International Editor
John Daniszewski.
Gamel, who reported from Baghdad earlier this year, has served
as news editor in Stockholm, Sweden, and covered the United
Nations during two tours on the International Desk in New
York.
She took up her assignment in Iraq on Dec. 1 and reports to
Chief of Bureau Steven R. Hurst.
Gamel joined the AP in 1996 as a reporter in Des Moines, Iowa.
She has also worked for the news organization in Raleigh,
N.C.
Before joining the AP, Gamel was a reporter for The Moscow
Tribune in Russia and was a Washington, D.C.-based reporter
for The News, a Mexico City-based newspaper.
A native of Boise, Idaho, Gamel is a graduate of Bates College
in Lewiston, Maine. She holds a master's degree from the Medill
School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
